Gregory of Tours
Gregory of Tours, author and ecclesiastic whose History of the Franks is still read today.
Gregory was born on Nov 30, about 539 (his exact birthyear is not specified). He was born in what was then Arvernus of Arvernorum civitas, the chief city of Arvernia or Auvergne. His father was the Senator Florentius, Gregory's mother was Armentaria, grand-daughter of Saint Tetricus, Bishop of Langres 539-72.
Gregory was Metropolitan Bishop of the city of Tours from 573 until his death in 594. He was later canonized.
