'''Miranda Jenkins''' (1865-1954) Copyright 2006, Will Johnson, [mailto:wjhonson@aol.com wjhonson@aol.com], Professional Genealogist, All Rights Reserved This page has been paid for by George's relative Althea Bolden. Miranda Unknown was born Dec 1865 in Louisiana per the 1900 census. (She is 51 per the 1920 census, and 56 per the 1930 census) She married [[George E Washington]] 4 Apr 1899 in Arkansas County as "Mirandy Wimberly". Her maiden name is unknown at this time. Maranda evidently had several children from a prior marriage, named Wimberly. On the 1900 census, they say married 1 year, but on the 1910 census, he says this is his first marriage, while she says it's her second and both say they married 18 years ago. Per her tombstone (see below), she died in 1954, probately in [http://en.wikipedia.com/wiki/Stuttgart,_Arkansas Stuttgart], Arkansas County, Arkansas. I placed a lookup request [http://boards.ancestry.com/localities.northam.usa.states.arkansas.counties.arkansas/1858/mb.ashx here on Ancestry's Arkansas County Board] and got this response:
According to the book, "Cemetery Records of Arkansas County, Arkansas",Page 290, there is a Washington, G. E., born 1863, died 1949. He is listed as buried in the Green Groves and Love's Rest Cemeteries which are located just north of Stuttgart. Both of these cemeteries are transcribed together as one so they must be connected. On the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS)government web site they are listed as two different cemeteries but very close to each other by latitude and longitude.
A follow-up request located his wife Miranda:
There is only one Washington listed besides G. E. in the same cemetery; Washington, M., born 1865, died 1954, page 290. The book doesn't list the buried by rows or in alphabetical order for these two cemeteries. So the persons listed above him and below him may or may not be next to him. But here they are; above him is, Geanes, Lester, born 12/1/1941, died 9/19/1961. The person listed on line below his name is, Amos, Minnie, born 11/25/1900, died 5/12/1969. Hope this helps you.
==Children== Miranda was evidently married before to a Mr Wimberly or Wimberley. Most if not all of her children from this marriage later took the surname Washington. *Hiluid Wimley. Althea has found a death certificate which says: "Age 44, colored, single, male. Date of birth April 15, 1886 at Dumas, AR. Mother Maranda Jenkins born in Shreveport, LA. Father Lawson Wimley, born in GA. Date of death March 20, 1929. The cause of death is a gunshot wound of the abdomen. He died at Desha County, Township of Randolph. It doesn't say where he was buried, just that the undertaker was General Morgan. A line beneath the undertaker's name contains the reference, "Owens and Brown....Gould, AR" *Lawson Wimberly. One WW1 Draft Registration Card [http://content.ancestry.com/Browse/view.aspx?dbid=6482&path=Arkansas.Calhoun+County.0.W.169&fn=Lawson&ln=Wimberly&st=r&pid=24267224&rc=&zp=75 here] shows living at Thornton, [Calhoun County], AR; born 29 Aug 1887 at Felsenthal, [Union County], AR; laborer at a Saw Mill; wife and three children. However, there is another Lawson Wimberly in 1910 in Chester, Arkansas County [http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&db=1910USCenIndex%2c&rank=0&=%2c%2c%2c%2c%2c%2c%2c%2c%2c%2c%2c%2c%2c%2c%2c%2c%2c&gsfn=Lawson&gsln=Wimberly&sx=&gs1co=1%2cAll+Countries&gs1pl=1%2c+&year=&yearend=&sbo=0&srchb=r&prox=1&ti=0&ti.si=0&gss=angs-d&fh=0&recid=2344637&recoff=1+2 here], age 22, with his wife Anna. The 1900 census states that she was born Nov 1893. Althea states that she married a [[James Coleman]] and died in [http://en.wikipedia.com/wiki/Detroit,_Michigan Detroit] in 1983. The marriage had to take place sometime after the 1910 census when Ethel is enumerated still living with her parents. There is an Ethel Coleman 11 Nov 1893 - Mar 1979 who is listed in the [http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&rank=0&gsfn=Ethel&gsln=Coleman&sx=&f9=&f8=&f10=&f6=&f5=&f7=&f1=&f15=Michigan&f14=&f13=&f12=&f20=&f0=&prox=1&db=ssdi&ti=0&ti.si=0&gss=angs-d&fh=0&recid=13099959&recoff=1+2+22 SSDI] as having last resided in Detroit.
