He was the son of Henry Stewart, Lord Darnley and Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots.

He succeeded his mother [[Mary, Queen of Scots]] as Ruler of Scotland upon her death by execution while he was an infant.

In 1589 he married [[Anne of Denmark]].

He succeeded his cousin [[Elizabeth I, Queen of England|Elizabeth]] as the ruler of England in 1603 upon her death.

He died in 1625, and was succeeded as King of England by his son, [[Charles I, King of England]].
