11.Mary Savage married (as his 1st wife) William Stanley, of Hooton and Storeton. He married (2nd) Alice de Hoghton.
12.William Stanley son and heir by Mary Savage.

I have seen various conflicting sources as to the order of the two marriages and as to which wife was the mother of son William.

Remarks :Page 290 gives the following sequence
Sir William Stanley; m. Blanche Arderne
William Stanley; m (1) Mary Savage (2) Alice de Hoghton
(by 1st wife) Sir William Stanley; m (1) Margaret Bromley (2) Agnes Grosvenor

After publication Brice Clagett (on 19 July 2004) questioned this arrangement:
“Page 290 says that Sir William Stanley, of Hooton (c.1405-1466) married (1) Mary Savage (2) Alice de Hoghton, and son William was by the 1st marriage. I have seen various conflicting sources as to the order of the two marriages and as to which wife was the mother of son William.” On 20 July 2004 Douglas Richardson responded “As you have indicated, there are various accounts of the Stanley family of Hooton in print, none of them entirely satisfactory. I believe my arrangement is correct.”

As recently as March 3 of this year, Richardson declined to state that the RPA version was incorrect. But apparently it wasn’t correct, because his newly published MCA gives a different sequence for the Stanleys of Hooton (which it seems is based on the research of Todd Whitesides, posted on SGM/Gen-Med earlier this year)

I think Richardson's restructuring of the Stanley of Hooton lineage is still weak on a couple of points. I can find no contemporary evidence for the Savage or Arderne marriages into this line
