 Robert Stroud left his parent's home in 1903, at the age of 13.  In 1908 he was living in Cordova, Alaska.  That year he and his 36-year-old girlfriend Kitty O'Brien moved to Juneau. Kitty was a dance-hall entertainer and prostitute.
-An acquaintance of their raped and beat Kitty and for that Richard killed him and then turned himself in the the Sheriff.  His mother Elizabeth hired a lawyer, but Robert was sentenced to 12 years at McNeil Island.  In 1912 he was transferred to Leavenworth.
