Dean's mother began making extra money manufacturing candy and running a candy store, where Dean helped out, until the business closed and she moved to Colorado.  In 1964 he was inducted into the army.  His mother married for a third time.  Dean stayed in Houston and trained to become an electrician, eventually working for Houston Power and Light.</td></tr></table>
