Diana Spencer, by her marriage, as his first wife, to Charles, Prince of Wales, became the daughter-in-law of [[Elizabeth II, Queen of England]].  Diana is a descendent of [[Richard Cecil]] in 15 steps, and also descends from the English throne herself.

Diana's shortest royal ascent is 10 steps, in three different ways, from the English throne.  Firstly from James II, King of England by his mistress Arabella Churchill.  Secondly from Charles II, King of England by his mistress Louise de Penancoet through their granddaughter Anne Lennox Countess of Albemarle, and thirdly by that same route but through Charles' and Louise's grandson Charles Lennox, Duke of Richmond.

In addition to her descent from the English throne, Diana has also a descent from the Scottish throne, in 15 steps to James V, King of Scotland from 1513 to 1542 by his mistress Margaret Erskine.
