[edit] Douglas Charles Richardson

Douglas Richardson was born 16 Apr 1951 in Sacramento County, California, the son of Wayne H Richardson and his wife Joan Elizabeth Kercheval, both natives of California. They had an elder son Kenneth Dryden Richardson born in 1949.

Douglas graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1973 with a B.A. in History and then the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1977 with an M.A. in History.

Douglas married Rozanne Somerville on 31 Dec 1980 and they had six children: Wayne H, Elizabeth G, Avyette A, Mary E S, Joan E, and William M. In 1990 the family lived in Bethany, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma.

Douglas has writen four books on genealogy including his most recent, an update to David Faris' Plantagenet Ancestry. He is a frequent contributor to soc.genealogy.medieval. As of March 2008 he lives in or near Salt Lake City, Utah. You can purchase his books directly from him at his official website.

  • I was informed by an email from Austin W Spencer that : "...[Douglas] has a six-generation ahnentafel in _The American Genealogist_, 55 (1979): 115-17. It gives full names for his ancestors, but only year dates of birth and death. There are places mentioned for most individuals, but these are not necessarily locations of birth, marriage, and death."

Newton Eno Richardson was born 22 May 1878 in Brentwood, Contra Costa County, California the son of Alpheus Richardson by his wife Avyette Taylor. Newton married Laura Lucinda Shearer in California, possibly in Contra Costa or Siskiyou County. He was a farmer and physician. He died 10 Aug 1935 in Sutter County, California.

Alpheus Richardson was born 3 Oct 1830 in Ohio, the son of Manning Richardson by his wife Susannah or Lucina.

He married Avyette Taylor sometime before 1879 and by 1900 they are living in Contra Costa County, California. They had at least or exactly four surviving children: Newton Eno, Leslie, Galen and Avyett.

Alphus Richardson died in 12 Dec 1915 in San Jose, Santa Clara County, California and is buried at Union Cemetery in Brentwood, Contra Costa County.

[edit] Samuel McConnell Shearer

Samuel McConnell Shearer was born Dec 1836 in Ohio to parents who were natives of that state.

Between 1860 and 1862 he came to San Juan Bautista, a tiny place in Monterey County, California, applied and was accepted as a teacher. While a resident there he married on 31 Jul 1862 at Trinity Church in San Jose, Santa Clara County, California to Miss Climena C French and they had two surviving children: Edwin and Grace. His first wife either died, or they divorced by 1877 when he had married again.

While Superintendent of Schools for Monterey County, California, he married secondly to Martha Young (b 1844) a native of Hancock County, Virginia (now West Virginia), and they had at least two more surviving children: Laura and William.

Samuel died between 1900 and 1910 possibly in Alisal Township, Monterey County where he was living in 1900.

Both Mylar and Harris speak highly of his ability, even though he expelled Harris. Shearer was principal for a short time and then moved to Salinas, where he became county superintendent of schools. She married Samuel Shearer.

Martha died after 1930 when she is found living with her daughter Laura, and son-in-law Newton Eno Richardson in Yuba, Sutter County, California.
