==Thomas Chalmers Addis== http://www.nap.edu/books/0309049768/xhtml/images/img00000.jpg Thomas Chalmers Addis, photo hosted on National Academies Press website. Thomas Chalmers Addis Jr was born 27 Jul 1881 in Edinburgh, Scotland, the son of Rev Dr Thomas Chalmers Addis by his wife Cornelia Beers-Campbell, who had married in Hoboken, New Jersey in 1 May 1880, but then moved to Scotland. In 1901 he is enumerated as a Medical Student. At some point before 1920, he became an M.D. "Later in 1911 Addis accepted an appointment as chief of the Clinical Laboratory of the Department of Medicine of the newly organized Stanford University School of Medicine in San Francisco (the medical school moved to its current location on the Palo Alto campus in 1959)." He immigrated to the United States in 1911 and in 1913 married Elesa B Partridge a California native. Thomas and Elesa had at least two children: Elesa C 1914/5 and Jean T 1916/7 both born in California. Thomas Addis was a Captain in the US Army Medical Corps 1917-9 (during WWI). Elesa's parents John and Emily Patridge are living with the family in Sausalito, California in 1930. "Addis' 30-plus year career at Stanford was characterized by an outstanding appreciation from his colleagues and patients, and by his very radical political views, which led him and his wife, Elesa Partridge (born into California pioneer stock), to join the Communist Party....Their younger daughter studied with the Bolshoi Ballet; and their elder daughter married David Karnowski, an oncologist." [http://www.rcpe.ac.uk/publications/articles/journal_33_2/9_thomas_addis.pdf] Thomas Addis was consultant to the Surgeon General 1942-5. Thomas and Elesa were yet living in 1946, when their twin granddaughters were born. Thomas died 4 June 1949 at the Cedars of Lebanon Hospital, Los Angeles County, California as a result of an operation. ===Primary documents for 14=== *[http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=62985 Query: place name], answers.google.com, 9 Sep 2002, frankatkidory-ga states "Thomas Addis who was born in Scotland in 1881 and whose birth certicate indicates that his parents were married in this indecipherable place in the USA (stated to be "Habroken") on 1st May 1880.
