The condition of her daughter Genie was discovered when she left her abusive husband and went to stay with her own parents, while seeking public assistance.  The child was initially made a ward of the state.  Much later Irene regained custody but finding Genie too much to handle, she was placed with a series of foster homes.

Dorothy was still living in 1993/5 when there are some letters from her in the "Finding Aid" file above.  An Oglesby relative informs me that "My Aunt Irene died in 2003 in Los Angeles".
