==Sherrod Kincaid== Sherrod Kincaid was born about 1821 in Tennessee. His parents may have been Joseph Kincaid whose wife may have been the Elizabeth Kincaid, living next door to Sherrod in 1850. If Joseph was his father, then Sherrod accompanied his parents when they moved to Alabama sometime before 1835 and then again when the family relocated to Arkansas about 1842/3. Wherever they lived in 1842, it does not appear to have been in Franklin County. I have transcribed the 1845 Franklin County Arkansas Tax List and I provided an Every-Name Index to it [http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~wjhonson/FranklinARK/tax1845.htm here] and there are no Kincaid's or variant on it. I also transcribed the First Probate Court Minutes book and I provided an Every-Name Index to it [http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~wjhonson/FranklinARK/ProbateCourtIndex.htm here] which shows no Kincaid or variant. Sherrod was married twice, to two sisters. He appears in the 1850 Census of Boston Township, [[Franklin County, Arkansas]] with his first wife Eliza Hughes who is 25 and born in Alabama, along with three children: Joseph 1846, William 1847, and George A 1848, all the children born in Arkansas. They are living next-door to an Elizabeth Kincaid who would appear to be a widow, and of a good age to be Sherrod's mother. Eliza Hughes died between 1850 and 1853. On 16 Jan 1853, in Franklin County, Arkansas, Sherrod married her sister Jane Hughes also born in Alabama. They do not give their ages on the marriage license. Sherrod was next enumerated in the 1860 census, where Jane is then listed as 26 years old. On 1 Sep 1857, "John Hughes of Newton County" purchased 40 acres for cash, at SWNE S24-T13N-R22W in Newton County, Arkansas. (see [http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/PatentSearch/Image.asp?Accession=AR1010%5F%5F%2E084&Format=SmallGIF&Page=1&Index=13&QryID=316%2E338 Patent Image]) But from 1857 to 1861, Sherrod A Kinkade (Kincade, and Kingcade) was paying the taxes on the land. My client states, referring to John Hughes "...I have a suspicion he had something to do with [Sherrod's] murder in 1867." Sherrod and Jane were both supposed to have been killed in 1867. ===Primary sources=== *[http://content.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=View&r=an&dbid=8057&iid=ALM704_7-0013&fn=Joseph&ln=Kincade&st=r&ssrc=&pid=1967847 1840 Census of Jackson County, Alabama] : "Joseph Kinkade 1101001-1111001" *[http://content.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=View&r=an&dbid=8054&iid=ARM432_26-0218&fn=Sherod&ln=Kincade&st=r&ssrc=&pid=9496989 1850 Census of Boston Township, Franklin County, Arkansas] : "Sherod Kincade, 29, Farmer, Tenn; Eliza 25, Alabama; Joseph P, 4, Ark; William L, 3, Ark; George A, 3/12, AR; Jane Hughs [sic], 17, Alabama" *1860 Census of Union Township, Newton County, Arkansas
