Another article however states that she moved out of her grandparents home when she was 14 to become a nanny, and through her high school years, she lived in her own apartment. Wikipedia goes on to say that "after graduating from Alhambra High School in 1937, she moved to Chicago where she married Hugh Ellsworth Rodham in 1942."

Her Wikipedia article states that Dorothy moved back to Chicago "...for a failed reunion with her mother."  Another article states that her mother wanted her to return to Chicago, but to work as her housekeeper.  Dorothy met Hugh Rodham in 1937 when she applied for a secretarial job at the Columbia Lace Company, where he sold curtains as a traveling salesman. It wasn't until four or five years later that he and Dorothy married, probably in or near Chicago.  They were subsequently to have three children.

Hannah Jones was born about 1882/3 in Pennsylvania.  She married Hugh Simpson Rodham about 1906 probably in Pennsylvania, possibly in Scranton.  They lived in Scranton.  She was evidently still living as late as when Hugh filled out his WWII Draft Registration Card, but there only named as "Mrs Hugh Rodham".

[edit] Hillary Diane Rodham

Hillary Diane Rodham was born 26 Oct 1947 at Edgewater Hospital in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, the daughter of Hugh Ellsworth Rodham and his wife Dorothy Emma Howell. The family lived first in Chicago until Hillary was three, and then in Park Ridge, Illinois. Her father was the son of Welsh and English immigrants. She has two younger brothers, attorney Hugh Rodham, who also ran for Senate, and Tony Rodham a business consultant, who is also associated with the Democratic National Committee (cf "Hugh Rodham Jr" on Muckety).

Hillary attended Maine East and South High Schools, Park Ridge, graduated 1965; Wellesley College, Wellesley, Mass., graduated 1969 (major: political science); Yale Law School, New Haven, Conn., graduated 1973. She then became Staff attorney for the Children's Defense Fund, 1973; and staff attorney, impeachment inquiry staff, U.S. House Judiciary Committee, 1974.

In 1971, while they were both at Yale she met and began dating Bill Clinton. She was a law professor at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville from 1974 to 1976. She and Bill married 11 Oct 1975, in Fayetteville, Washington County, Arkansas. Hillary then joined the Rose Law Firm in Little Rock in 1977, becoming partner at that time or slightly later. Bill and Hillary had a single child, Chelsea Victory Clinton, on 27 Feb 1980 in Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas.

In 1976 Bill Clinton was elected Attorney General of Arkansas and in 1978 Governor of Arkansas for a 2-year term. He was defeated when he ran for re-election in 1980, but then reclaimed the Governorship in 1982 and remained Governor for ten more years. In 1992, while Governor of Arkansas, he ran for and was elected President of the United States and then was re-elected in 1996, serving until Jan 2001.

Hillary resigned in Feb 1992 as chairman of the Children's Defense Fund. Moving to New York, Hillary was elected a US Senator from New York in 2000, becoming the first First Lady to be elected to public office. She ran on the Democratic ticket for the US Presidential Election of 2008. Her Democratic challengers were: Joe Biden, Christopher Dodd, John Edwards, Dennis Kucinich, Barack Obama, Bill Richardson, and Mike Gravel. She recently conceded her run, throwing her support behind Barack Obama the only remaining Democratic contender.

[edit] Hugh Ellsworth Rodham

Hugh Ellsworth Rodham was born 2 Apr 1911 in Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, the son of Hugh Simpson Rodham, an English immigrant and his wife Hannah Jones. Between 1930 and 1937 he moved to Chicago where in 1937, while working as a traveling salesman, he met his future wife Dorothy.

He married Dorothy Emma Howell in 1942 in Chicago, Illinois (per Wikipedia). They first lived in Chicago, but then about 1950/1 they moved to the Chicago suburb of Park Ridge, Illinois, where Hilary grew up.

In 1987 they moved to Little Rock, Arkansas. In Nov 1992, a Chicago Sun-Times article stated that Dorothy and Hugh were considering moving to Washington, D.C. They didn't however, Hugh died 7 Apr 1993 in Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas, and is buried at Washburn Street Cemetery in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Some time after his death, his widow Dorothy did move to Washington, D.C.

[edit] Dorothy Emma Howell

PH2007060201324.jpg

Dorothy Emma Howell was born in or around Chicago, Cook County, Illinois in June, 1919, the daughter of Edwin John Howell and his wife Della Murray. Her parents divorced (this article states in 1920, while this one states 1927), and Della married secondly in 1933 to a Chicago businessman Max Rosenburg. It was perhaps about this time that Dorothy and her younger sister, Isabelle (b. 1924) went to live with their grandparents in the Los Angeles area.

Wikipedia states that "... through her years in high school, she lived with her paternal grandparents in the Los Angeles suburb of Alhambra, California." Another article however states that she moved out of her grandparents home when she was 14 to become a nanny, and through her high school years, she lived in her own apartment. Wikipedia goes on to say that "after graduating from Alhambra High School in 1937, she moved to Chicago where she married Hugh Ellsworth Rodham in 1942."

Dorothy's Wikipedia article states that Dorothy moved back to Chicago "...for a failed reunion with her mother." Another article states that her mother wanted her to return to Chicago, but to work as her housekeeper.

Hillary was born in a hospital in Chicago, the family initially living in that city. However when Hillary was three, the family moved to the Chicago suburb of Park Ridge, Illinois. This article states they moved to Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas in 1987, "...to be closer to their daughter."

When her husband died, an article in the News Record of North Hills, Pennsylvania which was mainly about Hillary, reprinted this quote from Dorothy:
"There must have been 40 or 50 children within a four-block radius of our house and within four years of Hillary's age," the first lady's mother, Dorothy Rodham, told The Washington Post in January. "They were all together, all the time, a big extended family. There were more boys than girls, lot of playing and competition."

She was mentioned, in May 2004 here, when she went out with her daughter and granddaughter. In the article, "Hillary Rodham Clinton", ancestry research by William Addams Reitwiesner, he mentions that she was living in 2006 in Washington, D.C. Dorothy Rodham is mentioned in this article from 8 Dec 2007 which states that she is with her daughter on the campaign trail (or at least part of it).

[edit] Hugh Simpson Rodham

Hugh Simpson Rodham was born 16 Aug 1879 in Durham, England, the son of Jonathan Rodham and his wife Isabella Simpson. By 1900 the family had moved to Scanton, Pennsylvania which is probably where Hugh married his wife Hannah about 1906.

The family was there through the 1930 census and Hugh may have lived the remainder of his life in Scranton. Hugh Rodham died Mar 1965, probably in Pennsylvania.

[edit] Hannah Jones

Hannah Jones was born about 1882/3 in Pennsylvania. She married Hugh Simpson Rodham about 1906 probably in Pennsylvania, possibly in Scranton. They lived in Scranton. She was evidently still living as late as when Hugh filled out his WWII Draft Registration Card, but there only named as "Mrs Hugh Rodham".

[edit] Edwin John Howell, Jr

Edwin John Howell, Jr. was born 20 Jan 1897 in Elgin, Kane County, Illinois, the son of Edwin John Howell and his wife, Emma Monk.

Edwin Jr moved to Chicago, and married secondly Della Murray about 1918. They lived in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois when their daughter Dorothy was born there in June 1919.

Edwin and Della divorced, probably in Chicago — (this article states in 1920, while this one states 1927). It was perhaps about this time that Dorothy and her younger sister, Isabelle (b. 1924) went to live with their grandparents in the Los Angeles area, one article stating that this was "when she was 8 years old".

Edwin Howell is probably that same one who died in 1946 in San Francisco, California.

[edit] Della Murray

Della Murray was born in Illinois in 1902/1903. She married Edwin John Howell Jr about 1918, probably in or near Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, where they were living when their daughter Dorothy was born there in June 1919. "Dorothy's mother, Della Murray, was only fifteen when Dorothy was born and Dorothy's fireman father Edwin John Howell Jr was seventeen." ("Hillary Rodham Clinton: Profile of a Leading Democrat")

This article states that her second marriage was to "...a Jew, a Chicago businessman named Max Rosenberg." It does appear likely however, that her second marriage was to a Mr Chrysler, sometime before 1930, from whom she apparently also divorced. Her marriage to Rosenberg took place in 1933.

William Addams Reitwiesner, in his "Hillary Rodham Clinton" write-up states that Della died in Miami, Florida, in 1960.
