He married Amanda Whitson 27 Sep 1836 in Whitsontown, Crawford County, Arkansas.  She was born abt 1821 in Williamson County, Tennessee, the eldest daughter of Major William F Whitson Jr and Harriet Witherspoon.  They had five children.  At the time of his marriage, he was Sheriff of Crawford County.
