John E Chapman lived in [[Grant County, Arkansas]].  According to his daughter, he bought a farm in Grapevine in the early '30s.  "My mother said that during the Depression, they lost it for lack of two $50 payments.  This was probably between 1934 and 1938. I'm guessing."

John Eugene Chapman was born about 1884 in Grandview, Spencer County, [[Indiana]].  On 19 Apr 1930 in Camden, Ouachita County, Arkansas, he married Linnie Mae Magby who had been born 27 Nov 1911 in Bismarck, Hot Spring County, Arkansas.  
  
Using [http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp?display=localitydetails&subject=194542&subject_disp=Arkansas%2C+Grant&columns=*,0,0 "Grant", part of Arkansas] as a place-name search in the LDS Card Catalog we see that there are Land Indexes.  We can see that the deeds themself stop at Book P which ended in 1901, however the direct index to deeds is film #978959 until 1930, and then film #978960, while the reverse index to deeds is film #980025 until 1941 and then film #978958.  Evidently this county saw a fair amount of deed activity if the indexes take up several microfilm reels.
