John Sidney McCain III
John McCain was born in 1936 at Coco Solo Naval Air Station in the Panama Canal Zone to naval officer John S. McCain, Jr. (1911–1981) and Roberta (Wright) McCain (b. 1912). At that time, the Panama Canal was under American control.
On 3 Jul 1965, McCain married Carol Shepp, a model originally from Philadelphia. McCain adopted her two young children Douglas and Andrew. He and Carol then had a daughter named Sidney. Divorce proceedings were granted Feb 1980, to take effect that April.
McCain then married Cindy Lou Hensley, a teacher from Phoenix, Arizona, whose father had founded a large beer distributorship. McCain and Hensley were married on 17 May 1980. He retired from the Navy on 1 Apr 1981, and then moved to Arizona. He was first elected to the House of Representatives, and then to the Senate, serving from 1987.
In 1999 he published a "family memoir", with writer Bill Salter, which was later made into a movie.
John McCain ran for U.S. President in 2000. Under fierce negative campaigning by both McCain and George W Bush, McCain lost South Carolina to Bush. A string of loses, with a few wins, meant McCain dropped from the race and Bush became the next President.
John McCain served in the U.S. Senate for four terms before beginning his run for President in 2008. With the remaining Republican contenders out-of-the-race, McCain is the Republican nominee. In August 2008 he announced his vice-Presidential selection as Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska, making her the first female on the Republican Presidential ticket.
John McCain had an uncle "Wild Bill" McCain who married Mary Louise Earle.

The 1840 census shows only one Azariah D. Fletcher in the US and he lives in Kyles Ford TN near an Anthony Smith. Their names are 10 apart on the same census sheet. Anthony Smith is the son-in-law to Thomas A. Fletcher brn 1749 who was a Revolutionary War vet. Thomas A. lived to be 94 and was with Anthony Smith and wife (the daughter of Thomas A.) in his final years.
Thomas A. had 4 sons: John, William, James and Thomas B. Azariah D. Fletcher in the 1840 census was born about 1812 and may be the grandson of Thomas A. There was another Azariah D. Fletcher who was born about 1850 and is TN, and said to be the great great grandfather of Senator John McCain.
Many of the Kyles Ford TN Fletchers left the area about the time of the Civil War and some went to Clay Co. Kentucky. In KY, the 1850 Azariah D. Fletcher appears and marries a woman from Laurel co. KY which is ajacent to Clay Co.
