He came to Quebec from England sometime after the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_of_1837|1837], settling first at [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Prairie,_Quebec La Prairie, Quebec] where he was a Leather Tanner and Captain of the Militia (Military Service).  He first appears in my records when he marries on 24 Dec 1843 in St Luke's Anglican Church at La Prairie to Josephine Lalande dit Latreille. Their first four children were born there and baptised at the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Montreal.
