New page

Miow Welch

Miow Welch was born in Napa County, California, California May 1877, the son of Virginia Chavez Beltran (or Beltrand) Welch Alfaro and possibly Gavino Beltran. He had an older sister Josephine who had been born in Napa County, two years earlier. They possibly had the same father.

By 1880, Virginia had married Henry (aka Enrique) Welch and the family was then living in Tehama County, California, but also enumerated in Humboldt County, California. She and Henry had five children, one of which William Henry Welch was born in 1881 and died in Sacramento in 1938.

In 1900, Miow is listed on the Tehama County census as "Miew", age 23, born CA. He could not be found on the 1910 census. On the 1920 census he is listed as "Miow H." He could not be found on the 1930 census.

Miow's mother Virginia died in 1921, and he attended the funeral according to her obituary. The family also called him Tio "Chino". He was reportedly last seen in the 1930s but did not attend the funerals of his three half-brothers in northern California in 1938 and 1939. He cannot be found on the California Death Index.

It is believed that he married two times, but had no children. He was a sheep shearer by trade.
