Piers Gaveston a Gascon knight perhaps a few year older than Edward, came to England and became a friend to the young heir to the throne.  This friendship was of such an intense type, that Edward's father [[Edward I, King of England|Edward I]] banished Piers from the kingdom.

However in 1307, upon his accession to the throne, one of the young Edward II's first acts was to bring Piers back to England.
