Pyne Cavendish

Pyne Cavendish was born between 1731 and 1748, the daughter of Henry Cavendish (1707-76) (later Knight and First Baronet), by his first wife Anne Pyne (born 1706/8). We know that Pyne was born 1731 or later, because her parents had a license to marry dated June 1730. We know that Pyne was born in 1748 or earlier, because that year her father remarried to Catherine Prittie, widow of Richard Meade of Ballintober

In 1768, Pyne Cavendish married, as his second wife, Maurice Crosbie, Dean of Limerick, the son of Maurice Crosbie, 1st Baron Branden by his wife Elizabeth Anne FitzMaurice.

Maurice Crosbie and Pyne Cavendish had four children.

  • Anne Crosbie married on 25 Sep 1790 at St Mary's, Limerick (Batch M700561 wj) as her first husband to Charles Brydges Woodcock esq
  • Pyne Crosbie, evidently the second daughter, born sometime between 1770 and 1786; married firstly at Portpatrick, Scotland on 9 Jan 1798 to Sir John Gordon of Park, co Bamf, Scotland, Baronet. Their marriage was dissolved in 1806 by Act of Parliament, based upon her affair with Capt Henry Brand, whom she married next. Pyne married secondly on 24 Jul 1806 to Henry Otway Brand-Trevor (born 27 Jul 1777), with whom she had been having an affair. He was later 21st Lord Dacre from 1851. She had a child baptised as "Henry Brand Gordon" on 23 Mar 1806 at Kimpton, co Herf.
  • William Crosbie who was described as "in holy orders" in 1809 and as "Rev" in 1817, succeeded his first cousin as 4th Baron Brandon in 1815; married 3 May 1815 to Cecilia Latouche but died s.p.m. on 3 May 1832 leaving a sole heiress, at which time the Barony of Brandon went extinct.
  • Dorothea Crosbie, evidently the youngest daughter, married Edward Harvey of Temple Hill in Wexford, esq.

Pyne (Cavendish) Crosbie is an ancestress, through this marriage, to Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York. Pyne Cavendish appears in Position 147 in Sarah's Ancestral Chart.

Henry Cavendish

Henry Cavendish was baptised 15 Apr 1707, the son of William Cavendish by his wife Elizabeth Holte, who had a license to marry dated 1705. Henry's baptismal certificate is extant in the extracted IGI.

In 1730, when Henry had just turned 23 and had not been previously married, he as "Henry Cavendish, esq of Doveridge" married the 23-year-old unmarried Anne Pyne of St Anne. Their license dated 8 June 1730 allows them to marry at Royal Chapel of Whitechapel. There is a patron-submitted sheet in the IGI claiming that they did marry the next day at Westminster.

Henry remarried in 1648, to Catherine Prittie, widow of Richard Meade of Ballintober
