==Lou Birchie Ayers== Lou Birchie Ayers was born 9 Feb 1893 in Mississippi, the child of "Lige Ayers" (per her obituary), a native of Georgia. In the 1910 census she is 19, in the 1920 census she is 27, and in the 1930 she is 39. Her tombstone states she was born 1891, but her obituary states "9 Feb 1893". She married William Jefferson Blythe about 1906. They later lived in or around the town of Sherman in Grayson County, Texas. An article in the ''Washington Post'' states that the Texas Blythe's say they moved to Sherman from Tippah County in 1909. If true, then he must have married Lou in Mississippi. In the 1910, 1920 and 1930 census they are enumerated in Grayson County, Texas. In Feb 1935, William Jefferson Blythe died. A little over a year later, the farm, on which they had, in 1934, taken a mortgage, was sold for delinquency. The family then moved into downtown Sherman, and Lou took a job as a hotel chambermaid. Lou married secondly to Avery Barron on 5 May 1942 in Durant, Oklahoma. Lou died in Sherman, Grayson County, Texas 15 Feb 1946, and is buried in the West Hill Cemetery there. Her obituary states that she leaves : "...her husband; four sons, Clifford Blythe of Dallas; W. J. Blythe of Chicago; Glenn Blythe and Earnest Blythe both of Sherman; four daughters, Mrs. Everett Mitchell, Mrs. Carl Ramey and Miss Cora Lucille Blythe, all of Sherman and Mrs. Lloyd Linsteadt of Denison; a brother, Tom Ayers of Blanchard, Oklahoma; a sister Mrs. Luther Mattox of Rinzi, Mississippi; and twelve grandchildren." ===Primary sources for 5=== *[http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&rank=0&gsfn=&gsln=Ayers&sx=&f5=MS&f4=&f7=&f42=&f8=&f15=&f27=&f21=&rg_81004011__date=1850&rs_81004011__date=5&_8000C002=&f28=&_80008002=&f16=&_80018002=&f6=&f11=&f10=&f22=&f43=&gskw=&prox=1&db=1880usfedcen&ti=0&ti.si=0&gss=angs-d&pcat=35&fh=20&recid=13905569&recoff=2+189 1880 Census of Beat 5, Tippah County, Mississippi] : "Simpson Ayers 57; Hariet 28; Ann 17; M Lienticia 13; Edward 9; Elizia 7; Simpson 7; Marshall R 4; Bee 3; MacHie 3M" *[http://content.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=View&r=an&dbid=7602&iid=MST623_830-0025&fn=Loo+b&ln=Ayers&st=r&ssrc=&pid=36148353 1900 Census of Childes Mill, Tippah County, Mississippi] : "Hatty Ayers, head, June 1850, widow, mother of 12, 11 living, born At Sea/Ireland/Ireland, Farmer, Owns Home; Fred G, son, Feb 1882, MS; Minnie B, daughter, Apr 1891, MS; Lou B, daughter, Feb 1888, MS; Lona M, daughter, Apr 1892, MS" *[http://content.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=View&r=an&dbid=7884&iid=TXT624_1557-0670&fn=William&ln=Blethe&st=r&ssrc=&pid=28094940 1910 Census of Howe, Grayson County, Texas] showing "William Blithe, 27, married 4 years ago, MS/MS/MS, Farmer; Birtchie, wife, 19, mother of 2, 2 living, MS/GA/GA; Clifford son, 2, MS; Raymond son 1 2/12 MS; Fanny Blithe, mother-in-law, 51, widow, mother of 7, 6 living, MS/SC/NC; Wardie (or Mandie?), sister in, 23, MS/MS/MS; Isa May, sister, 14, MS/MS/MS; William J, Uncle, 51, widower, MS/MS/MS; Carl Rowland, hired hand, 17, MS/MS/MS" *[http://content.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=View&r=an&dbid=6482&iid=TX-1953400-4445&fn=Willie+Jefferson&ln=Blythe&st=r&ssrc=&pid=14664277 World War I Draft Registration Card] showing "Willie Jefferson Blythe; resident of Grayson County, Texas, born Jan 21, 1883; Farmer in Grayson County; nearest relative Mrs Birchie Blythe; registered Sep 12, 1918" *[http://content.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=View&r=an&dbid=6061&iid=TXT625_1808-0649&fn=William+J&ln=Blythe&st=r&ssrc=&pid=22748714 1920 Census of Justice Precinct 1, Grayson County, Texas] showing "William J Blythe, 36, MS/MS/MS, Farmer; Birchie L wife, 27, MS/GA/GA; Clifford P son 12 MS; Raymond W son 10 MS; Laura P daughter 9 TX; Ernest C son 7 TX; Maurine G daughter 3 2/12 TX, W J son 2 TX; Hubert Poor lodger, 24, TX" *[http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&rank=0&gsfn=&gsln=Blythe&sx=y&f12=Texas&f4=Grayson&f7=&f15=&rg_81004011__date=&rs_81004011__date=0&f18=&f14__n=&_8000C002=&_80008002=&_80018002=&f10=&f16=&gskw=&prox=1&db=1930usfedcen&ti=0&ti.si=0&gss=angs-d&pcat=35&fh=2&recid=109128757&recoff=3+21+22 1930 Census of Precinct 1, Grayson County, Texas] *[http://www.rootsweb.com/~txgrayso/mnabbe13.html Lou Birchie Ayers obituary] as "Mrs Avery Barron" ===Secondary sources for 5=== *[http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn?pagename=article&node=&contentId=A99624-1993Jun20¬Found=true "The First Father"], by Gene Weingarten, ''Washington Post'', 20 Jun 1993 ===Dubious sources for 5=== *[http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSvcid=2288&GRid=7264436& "Lou Birchie Ayers Blythe"] on Findagrave stating : "Lou Birchie Ayers Blythe, born 9 Feb 1883 Tippah County, Mississippi, died 15 Feb 1946 Sherman, Grayson County, Texas, buried West Hill Cemetery in Sherman", but *note* that apparently Lou has no headstone, so this is not an independent witness to her dates, and her birthyear is obviously in error. *[http://www.rootsweb.com/~txgrayso/ceme-westh2.html "West Hill Cemetery"], Grayson County, TX Genweb, showing : "Birchie Ayers Blythe BARRON 1891, 15 Feb 1946 [wife of] Avery Barron Feb 1891, 15 May 1967; wed 5 May 1942. D/o Mr and Mrs Lige Ayers, wed William Jefferson Blythe 17 Aug 1906" and linking to Avery's and also Lou's obituary [http://www.rootsweb.com/~txgrayso/mnabbe13.html here]. The cemetery data does *not* appear to be based on a headstone, but rather on some form on annotation or compilation, and it does not name its sources.
