As Dorothy is picking up the apples, she comes across a Tin Woodsman.  He mumbles something which they interpret to mean that he wants them to oil his mouth.  Once they do, he starts speaking clearly.  He tells them that "'Bout a year ago I was chopping that tree and suddenly it began to ran, and right in the middle of a chop, I rusted solid."
