In the Spring of 1971, he met model-actress Marcia Lynn Bertrand. Their first date was in the restaurant of the Beverly Hills Hotel. They married that December at Jon's home in Brentwood, Los Angeles. Their first apartment was at 468 South Roxbury Drive in Beverly Hills. He credits Marcia with giving him the push to play in his next hit 1972's "Deliverance". The "Los Angeles Times" is reporting on 21 Mar 1972 that "Jon Voight and his bride Marcia (nee Bertrand, of the Chicago bowling alley family) lost their expected first child...." In Dec 1972, "Life" magazine ran an article on Jon, and included a picture of him with Marcheline calling her "the gentle, story-book pretty girl he married last December".
With Marcia he had two children: a son writer-director James Haven Voigt and a daughter actress Angelina Jolie. Jon had an affair, Marcia found out and they separated. Jon and Marceline separated the year after Angelina was born, but did not file for divorce until a few years later. He and Jolie had some kind of relationship while Angelina was younger, but became estranged. An attempted reconciliation eventually broke down with Voight stating that Angelina had "mental problems" while Angelina stating that she didn't want her children raised around Voight.
Voight starred in 1978's "Coming Home" (opposite Jane Fonda) for which he won an Academy Award, and 2001's "Ali".

from 385 Marie Anne Lizot, Angelina Jolie ascends to royal blood in the following way
Marie Anne Lizot married 1771, her father was
Nicholas Lizot born 1727 at La Pocatiere, Quebec; his mother was
Marie Madeleine Miville dit Deschenes born 8 Aug 1693 at Riviere Ouelle, Quebec, her father was
Jean Miville born 5 Sep 1672 at Quebec City, Quebec, his mother was
Catherine de Baillon born abt 1645 probably near Montfort-l'Amaury, Ile-de-France
Catherine's parents were Alphonse de Baillon and his wife Louise de Marle. Both parents have royal blood, Alphonse is the 14th generation descending from Philip II, King of France. Alphonse also descends from David I, King of Scotland, from William the Conqueror, King of England, from Otto II, Holy Roman Emperor and others. Louise de Marle is the 17th generation descending from Louis VI, King of France. She also descends from Athelred II, King of England and Henry "the Fowler", Holy Roman Emperor.
But much more interesting because of it's exotic sound, Louise de Marle descends from the Byzantine emperor Alexios III Komnenos, from Iwan Asen Tsar of Bulgaria, from Andrew II King of Hungary and John Dukas Emperor of Nicaea (died 1255).

2 Jon Voight
Jon Voight in 1969's "Midnight Cowboy" credit: flatland.com |
Jon Voight was born 29 Dec 1938 in Yonkers, Westchester County, New York, the son of Elmer Voytko alias Voight a professional golfer, and his wife Barbara Kamp. His father was Slovakian and his mother was German. A "People" article states : "Voight's own childhood was spent in Yonkers."
He along with actress Marcia Lynne "Marceline" Bertrand are the parents of James Haven and Angelina Jolie.
He attended Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, and then enrolled in 1956 at Catholic University in Washington D.C., from where he graduated. Being just shy of 6'3" he played college basketball. After graduation he moved to New York City. Jon married firstly to Detroit-born actress Lauri Peters, whom he had met when they both were in the Broadway musical "The Sound of Music". He played Rolf to her Liesl. They married in 1962. In Oct 1963, he was cast in the part of "Toby" in some TV-pilot movie which isn't named in my source but which is based upon the novel "Pioneer Go Home", and Lauri "provides the love interest". It doesn't specify the love interest of whom, this pilot does not appear on IMDb under his name, her name, or anyone else's that I can find. In fact, oddly enough, the protagonist "Virgil Kwimper" does not show up in a Google search. The book does however, but only mentioning a movie with Elvis Presley, not mentioning this half-hour TV-pilot. In Jun 1966, in Los Angeles, he and Lauri were Romeo and Juliet in Shakespeare's play in a San Diego repertory theater. He and Lauri divorced in 1967.
Jon Voight is most well-known today for his starring role, opposite Dustin Hoffman, in 1969's "Midnight Cowboy", where he played an aspiring gigolo in New York City. The censors gave the movie an "X" rating. Hollywood scoffing at censorship idiocy gave the film the Oscar for that year. Voight's next important work was in 1970's "Catch-22".

4 Elmer Voytko
[Edit]
Elmer Voytko alias Voight was born in 1909. Although he was born "Elmer Voytko", by 1929 he was already calling himself "Elmer Voight", when the New York Times first mentions him in a golf tournament. At the same time, another golfer named George Voight is making a name for himself. Could this be his brother George?
Elmer married fellow golf enthusiast Barbara Kamp in 1936, daughter of a German immigrant. With this wife he had three sons: world-renowned vulcanologist Barry Voight (b. 1937), actor Jon Voight (b. 1938) and songwriter James Wesley "Wes" Voight (b. 1942) who is professionally known as Chip Taylor. Chip Taylor composed the songs "Wild Thing" and "Angel of the Morning". In this 1956 article, he is called "Scarsdale golf pro Elmer Voight". At some point, they lived at 60 Ball Avenue, in Yonkers, New York.
He is identified here in "Current biography yearbook, Volume 35" as that one who died in 1973 and had worked as a golf pro at the Sunningdale Golf Club in Scarsdale, Westchester County (New York). Based on that he can be identified in this Social Security Death Index listing as that one who was born in 1909. He died either "in a car crash" or "after being hit by a car".

5 Barbara Kamp
[Edit]
Barbara Kamp was the daughter of a German immigrant. In 1936 she married Elmer Voight. They had three sons, all apparently born in Yonkers. After Elmer's death in 1973, it seems that Barbara moved to Los Angeles because she babysat one night for Jon and Marcheline.
Barbara died of bone cancer in 1995, age 85.

6 Rolland F. Bertrand
[Edit]
Rolland F "Rollin" "Rowley" Bertrand was born 11 Jun 1923 in Illinois (but evidently not in Cook County), the son of George Bertrand and his wife Angeline Leduc. The Cook County, Illinois Birth Index, 1916-1935 has been published here but I cannot find any Bertrand born in 1923 who could be him. He served during World War II, wounded Nov 1944 during the advance on the Rhine.
He got a job at the local Parkview Bowling Alley, and on 4 Jun 1949 at St Mary's Catholic Church, he married Lois June Gouwens, daughter of his employer. In 1950 they are living in Riverdale, Cook County, Illinois and Rolland had just been named manager of his father-in-law's bowling alley, when Marcheline was born. In 1953 the Chicago Tribune has a snippet : "... Roland Bertrand, owner of a Riverdale bowling alley...." but I don't know what it's about. In 1955, they are living in Riverdale by a miscellaneous newspaper mention. In 1959, mis-indexing him as "Holland" Bertrand, and calling him "Sgt-at-Arms" he was to be host to the National Bowling Tournament. Some times he is also mentioned just as "R Bertrand" and the way to find him is to look for "Parkview Lanes" instead. In his father's 1962 obituary, it states that Rolland was then living in Riverdale.
In September 1966, the family moved to Beverly Hills, where Marcia went to Beverly Hill High School, graduating in 1969. Can anyone find a high school picture of her?
Rolland married twice. After his first wife Lois died from cancer in 1973, Rolland went to Europe with his daughter and son-in-law and there fell for a German barmaid named Elke Heidrun, who herself had a teenaged daughter named Gabriella. As "Elke Heidrun Wett" she married Rolland F Bertrand 23 Sep 1975 in Clark County, Nevada and in 1993, his widow Elke was living in Henderson, Nevada.

7 Lois June Gouwens
[Edit]
Lois June Gouwens was born 14 Feb 1928 in Illinois, possibly in South Holland, Cook County where she is enumerated in 1930 living with Arie Gouwens and his wife Jennie. She is listed there only as "relative" but from the ages she could be their granddaughter or more probably even great-granddaughter.
Lois was the only child of "Roy" Gouwens and his wife Virginia "Jean". When she was young her parents owned a tavern until they sold it in 1941 to Jean's sister and her husband. With that money they bought the ten-lane Parkview Bowling Alley. After finishing high school in 1946, Lois commuted to Chicago where she enrolled in modeling school and worked for Marshall Fields department store.
Her future husband Rolland Bertrand got a job at the bowling alley her parents owned, and on 4 Jun 1949 at St Mary's Catholic Church, she married him.
In 1950 they are living in Riverdale, Cook County, Illinois when Marcheline is born that year. In 1953, Lois Bertrand is elected President of Roseland Auxiliary. (I'm not sure what this is, perhaps a bowling association.) In 1955, they are living in Riverdale by a miscellaneous newspaper mention. In his father's 1962 obituary, it states that Rolland was then living in Riverdale. In September 1966, the family moved to Beverly Hills, where Marcia went to Beverly Hill High School, graduating in 1969.
As "Lois J Bertrand", she died 11 Nov 1973 in Los Angeles County, California of cancer, but her funeral was held at St Mary's Catholic Church back in Riverdale.

12 George Bertrand
[Edit]
George Bertrand was born 9 Apr 1889 in Goodrich, Kankakee County, Illinois. The birthdate and place come from his World War I Draft Registration Card. The birthdate is repeated in his obituary, but there it states that he was born in Kankakee.
Evidently there were two men named George Bertrand, who both lived in Illinois, were both born on the same date, but six years apart. The World War I Draft Registration Card database shows here that one of these two men claims a birthyear of 1883 while the other claims a birthyear of 1889. It's fairly odd that two men would have the same birthdate and the same name.

13 Angeline
On his WWI Draft Registration Card dated 1917 and then living at Bradley, Schuyler County it states that George Bertrand has a wife and two children but she is not there named. In the 1930 census, his wife is named Angeline and in the 1962 obituary of George Bertrand, his wife is named Angeline, but gives no maiden name. William Addams Reitwiesner states that her name was Angeline Leduc but only cites the SSDI would of course would not have a maiden name on it, while Denis Beauregard cites Reitwiesner as his source for repeating this claim.
Reitwiesner then goes on to states that this Angeline's parents were Joseph Uldaric Leduc, b. Ste Anne de la Pérade, Québec, 1 Feb. 1856, d. ... [living 1911] m. Ste Anne de la Pérade, Québec, 5 Nov. 1878 27 Clorinthe Devault, b. Ste Anne de la Pérade, Québec, 28 Aug. 1858, d. ... [living 1911]. Since he states that Angeline and George married in 1912 in Bradley, [Kankakee County], Illinois, I wonder if this claim that the parents were "living 1911" somehow repeats to that marriage?
I would be interested if anyone has primary documentation showing what was her maiden name.
