Anna Nicole Smith
I will call her ''Vickie'' until her career starts, then I will start calling her ''Anna''. Anna was born as '''Vickie Lynn Hogan''' in Houston, Harris County, Texas, on 28 Nov 1967. The only child of the union of Donald Eugene Hogan (born 12 July 1947) and Virgie Mae Tabers (born 12 July 1951), who had married on 22 Feb 1967. (Virgie had a previous child, David Luther Tacker, Jr., born 1966). Donald pled guilty to charges of statutory rape of Virgie's ten-year-old sister Kay and another underage girl. For this, Donald spent six months in jail and then was put on ten-years probation. Virgie and he divorced 4 Nov 1969. Donald remarried Wanda Atkinson and had more children including a daughter Donna Hogan who wrote a book ''Train Wreck'' about the entire family, but mostly about Vickie. Vickie's half-sister Donna Hogan states that Donald was violent with his wife and children, from each marriage, and was also an alcoholic. Virgie next, sometime between 1969 and 1971, married Donald Hart who brought two previous children into the relationship: Shauna and Robert. Virgie and Donald also had a child together, Donald "Dino" Hart, Jr. Vickie was thus raised as the middle-child in a family of five children: David, Shauna, Vickie, Robert and Donald[Edit]
Growing up, Vickie was estranged from her father and his new wife. It's not clear that she ever had much contact with them and their children, until much later in her own life, after she became an adult. That she did eventually have contact is made clear in her half-sister Donna Hogan's book. That this contact was sporadic and embittered is also made clear. Donna Hogan states that she knew that she had a half-sister, and that she, Donna, was envious of Vickie's life which seemed much more stable than her own, from the little she knew. Vickie married first in 1985, at age 17 to Billy Wayne Smith, age 16 in Limestone County, Texas. Vickie had dropped out of school in the tenth grade, and they had met while both were working at Jim's Krispy Fried Chicken in Mexia, Limestone County, Texas. They had one child, a son Daniel Wayne Smith on 22 Jan 1986. Vickie was hospitalized for a drug overdose in 1986. She and Billy separated in 1987. In her half-sister Donna Hogan's book, it is stated that they divorced in 1987, but this is a misunderstanding. They separated, but did not divorce until 1993 as shown by the ''Texas Divorce Index''. Vickie also worked at one time as a cashier at Walmart. | |

"...she entered the Playboy Cover Contest and, at the age of twenty-four, she won. In May 1992, the dream continued when she was named Playmate of the Month and in 1993, she was crowned Playmate of the Year." (''Train Wreck'', p vi). While she was stripping, she had met "billionaire" James Howard Marshall II, a lawyer and oil-industry executive, and they ended up getting married, on 26 Jun 1994 in Harris County, Texas. He died aged 90, at Park Plaza Hospital in Houston, in Aug 1995 when his obituary appeared in the ''New York Times''. Marshall's estate was there stated to be valued at $550 million. [Edit] Anna had a television show called the ''Anna Nicole Smith Show'' which debuted in 2002 on E! Entertainment Television, on which, at some time, her lawyer and later boyfriend Howard K. Stern became a co-star. The show was canceled in 2004. Anna had a girl Dannielynn Hope Marshall Stern born 7 Sep 2006 in Nassau, Bahamas. Her son Daniel died 10 Sep 2006, while visiting Anna in the hospital where she'd just given birth. He was buried there in the Bahamas, although his father filed suit to have the body exhumed and moved back to Texas. On 28 Sep 2006, she and Howard K Stern exchanged vows in an informal wedding ceremony. |
[Edit] After a paternity test, it was determined that the father was her ex-boyfriend, entertainment photojournalist Larry Birkhead, who is also the guardian of the child, while the boyfriend she had had at her death, who was also her lawyer, Howard K. Stern, is the administrator or executor of her estate. She died in Hollywood, Broward County, Florida on 8 Feb 2007. Although she died with a will, it did not name her baby girl, so it's possible that it was set aside, because of that. The baby girl would stand to inherit Anna's entire estate, which doesn't amount to much aside from her interest in the J H Marshall II estate which is still being litigated. A probate court in Texas had ruled against Anna's claim, but a bankruptcy court in California had ruled for her. The conflict went to the U.S. Supreme Court which ruled in June 2011 that the bankruptcy court had no jurisdiction over the type of claim being litigated. [Edit] Can I just say here that the state of journalism in this country is so pitiful that many reporters are making outrageous statements about this U.S. Supreme Court case. Can you journalists please educate yourself on exactly what was being tried here and what they ruled instead of making yourself look like idiots-on-the-loose? Thanks. US Magazine reported in March 2009 that California Attorney General Jerry Brown has now stated that Howard K. Stern was "the principal enabler" in providing Anna Nicole Smith with thousands of prescription pills that led to her 2007 death (see here). Stern, 40, along with Dr. Sandeep Kapoor, 40, have been named as co-conspirators and surrendered to police and Dr. Khristine Eroshevich, 61 the third named, will surrender shortly, states the article. |

Donald Eugene Hogan
Donald Eugene Hogan was born 12 Jul 1947 in Harris County, Texas to Clarance Eugene Hogan and Helen Maurece Sandlin. He married Virgie Mae Tabers on 22 Feb 1967. They had one child, Vickie, and divorced on 4 Nov 1969. (Wikipedia states that Vickie was their only child together.) Donald next married Wanda Atkinson who, as her daughter Donna describes, was "completely psychotic". Donna states that her mother has been committed on several occasions, and Donna herself committed her once. Donald and Wanda also had children together including Donna.[Edit]

Virgie Mae Tabers
Virgie was born 12 Jul 1951 in Ellis County, Texas to Melvin A Tabers and his wife Paralee Allman. She was the third of four children for this couple. Her other three siblings, both before and after her, were all born in Travis County, but for some reason she was born in Ellis county. Melvin had both an uncle Virgil, and an aunt Virginia. Presumably "Virgie" was named for one of those two. At the age of thirteen, Virgie became pregnant by a sixteen-year-old boy named David Luther Tacker (born 25 Feb 1949) and they had a child they named David Luther Tacker, Jr on 19 Jan 1966 in Harris County, who later became an FBI agent. David's parents were George William Tacker (1921-2001, died in Como, Texas) and Betty Jo Hardison. Other than David, George and Betty also had an older daughter Anita Marie Tacker born 23 Dec 1946 and a younger daughter Brenda Sue Tacker born 11 Jun 1950. On 19 Oct 1966 in San Jacinto County, George William Tacker and Paralee Allman were married. At this point, nine months after the birth of her son David, David's father George became Virgie's step-father. Many sites have reported that Virgie had an "affair with her step-brother", but as my research clearly shows, they were not step-siblings at the time she became pregnant, nor at the time of the birth of their child. It's entirely possible that her mother and step-father met because of this situation however. And that couple were married for almost four years. [Edit] On 9 Sep 1970, George W Tacker and Paralee were divorced in Harris County. Two months later, on 11 Nov 1970 in Dallas County, George W Tacker, remarried his prior wife Betty J Hardison. David Tacker went on to marry Lena Marie Church on 11 Mar 1967 in Montgomery County, but divorced her in 1982 in Hunt County, then remarried her again 28 Dec 1982 in Kaufman County). David was apparently living in 2007 in Como, Texas. On 22 Feb 1967, Virgie, at the age of 15, married firstly Donald Eugene Hogan (born 12 Jul 1947). They had one child, Vicki on 28 Nov 1967, and divorced on 4 Nov 1969. (Wikipedia states that Vickie was their only child together.) Virgie next married Donald Ray Hart, sometime between 1969 and 1971 and had her third and last child, Donald Ray Hart Jr on 24 Jan 1972. Donald brought two children to this marriage Shauna and Robert. It's possible that Donald Hart died before 1988 as on 17 Oct 1987, Virgie as "Virgie Tabers" married Joe D. Thompson. Sometime before 2007, Virgie married again, her latest husband being then called James Arthur, and she became known as "Virgie Arthur". |

Melvin Alfred Tabers was born 20 Jul 1925 in Austin, Travis County, Texas, son of Nathaniel Tabers and Annie Mae Cook. He was a paratrooper in the United States Air Force. He married Paralee Allman and had four children:- Joyce Marie Tabers, born 17 Dec 1947 in Travis County, Texas;

- Melvin Alfred Tabers, Jr born 8 May 1953 in Travis County, Texas;

Melvin and Paralee must have divorced sometime between 1956 and 1966, as on 19 Oct 1966 in San Jacinto County, George William Tacker and Paralee Allman were married. In his obit, Virgie's name is spelt "Vergie". His obit also mentions his brothers William and Emery Clawson and a sister Virginia Dorsett. The Clawson's must be half-brothers, and they must have been born after the 1930 census where his parents, married early in life, are still married. Melvin died 19 Jan 2005 in the VA Hospital in Temple, Texas, and was buried at Fiskville Cemetery in Austin.

Nathaniel "Thaniel" Tabers was born 3 May 1898 in Texas. He married about 1918 to Annie Mae Cook, who was born about 1904 in Texas. They probably married in Austin where he is living 1918 and where their son Melvin was born in 1925. They appear in the 1930 census of Williamson County, Texas. Simeon Sandlin
Simeon Sandlin was born about 25 Mar 1855 in Alabama, the son of George Sandlin and Amanda unknown. He married about 1875/8 to Lovey Hunter, probably in Texas. By 1889 the family is living in Atlanta, Texas where Morris was born, according to his WW1 Draft Registration Card. Simeon had several children with his first wife: James, Una, Pauline, Morris, Abraham, Frederic Dallas, and Meta. Louisa died sometime between 1895 and 1899, probably in Texas.An aside on Abraham Sandlin
On the 1900 census of Cass County, Abraham is listed as being born May 1891. He is yet living on the 1910 census of Cass County as Abe. There is a World War I Registration Card for an Abe Sandlin, resident of Cass County, which states that he was born 19 May 1891 in Kildare, Texas. And now (for the piece de resistance), he has a death certificate in Tom Green County, Texas stating that he was born 24 May 1891 in Atlanta, (Cass County) and that his parents were "S S Sandlin and Love HUNTER". And so, the long-way-round we find his mother's maiden name.
Simeon Sandlin married Mrs Susan Lawrence, a Georgia native, in 1899 in Cass County, Texas. She appears as wife to Simeon in the 1900 census. This census states they've been married for one year, confirming the [indirect] source citation below under "Secondary Sources". With this second wife, Simeon had a baby who died young, Ruth, Harper, Ella and Albert. The appearance together in the 1930 census of Morris with "brother" Harper (really his half-brother) is how we prove this is all the same family.
Susan died between the 1900 and 1910 census, probably in Cass County, Texas. A genforum posting claims that Simeon's middle name is Sylvanus, and that he married Louisa Huntsman, a daughter of William Cheatham Huntsman (b ~1829) by a Miss Dillard. Simeon died 11 Sep 1915 and is buried, along with his son Freddie, at Evergreen Cemetery, in Miller County, Arkansas where they both have tombstones. (Note: Miller County borders Texas.)
Primary documents for 20
- 1930 Census of Cass County, Texas showing "Morris Sandlin 40, Callie Belle 35, Lamar 17, Olene 15, Josephine 12, Helen 3 8/12, Harper 27 Brother"
- WW1 Draft Registration Card showing "Morris Sanlin, of Atlanta, Texas; born 4 Jul 1889 in Atlanta, self-employed Farmer, wife and 3 children, registered 5 Jul 1917 in Cass County, Texas"
- Tombstone in Evergreen Cemetery, Miller County, Arkansas showing "Sam [sic] Sylvanis Sandlin 3/25/1855 - 9/11/1915". The only other Sandlin is "Freddie G Sandlin 7/16/1893 - 7/13/1905" which would apparently be the Frederic listed with him in the 1900 census below.
- 1910 Census of Cass County, Texas showing "Sim J or S Sandlon, 55, b AL, widower; Abe 15, Dallas, 16, Meta 14, Ruth 9, Harper 7, Ella 5, Albert 3"
- 1900 Census of Cass County, Texas showing "Simeon Sandlin 45, married 1 year (24 is crossed out); Susan 26 wife, married 1 year; Pauline 14, Morriss 10, Abraham 9 (born May 1891), Frederic 6, Meda 5, Baby 1.12, Daniel Lawrence 8, Dallas Lawrence 6" [Lawrence is their surname]. The census further states that Simeon and Susan have been married for 1 year, she is the mother 1 child with 1 child living. So obviously that one child must be "Baby"
- 1880 Census of Trinity, Texas showing "Simeon S Sandlin 25 born AL, Louesa 21, Jas W 2, Una E 1 month"
- 1860 Census of Cedar Plains PO, Southwest Division, Morgan County, Alabama showing "George Sandlin 30, Amanda 27, Martha A 10, Mary J 8, James S 6, Simeon 5, Willis 3, Sarepta V 1"
