Although it was actually his third film, the one that he considered his "first" was The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog. His assistant director on that film was Alma Lucy Reville, who had been born 14 Aug 1899 in Nottingham, England to Matthew Edward Reville and his wife Lucy Somebody. Alfred and Lucy were married, on 2 Dec 1926 (a few months before the film was released) at Brompton Oratory, London. Alfred and Alma had an only child Patricia "Pat" Hitchcock born 7 Jul 1928 in London. She retained her maiden name in credits to such films as The 39 Steps (1935) where she is credited as "Continuity - Alma Reville".
Hitchcock directed several movies, while living in England. His complete filmography is here. Then, in March 1939, David O Selznick, signed Hitchcock to a seven-year contract and the family relocated to Los Angeles, California. His Wikipedia article states that "He remains one of the most popular and most recognized filmmakers of all time." You can watch his film Dark Victory here and another one, The 39 Steps here on "Dramatic Movies on YouTube", and Notorious here on 1940s Movies on YouTube, and 1934's The Man Who Knew Too Much and 1936's Secret Agent, and 1940's "Rebecca"
Alfred Hitchcock died 29 Apr 1980 in Bel-Air, Los Angeles County and his wife Alma followed him on 6 Jul 1982 in the same place. Their daughter Pat married, had three children, and lives with her husband in California.
