Knol Help has written a basic quide for how to insert a table into your Knol and the simplest commands you can do with tables. Click here to see that guide. My article will move beyond that into more complex table editing.
A table is a grid, that you can add to your Knol, to show some of your information in a way that may be more appealing or more organized. Here is one example of a simple table.
The elements of the above table are arranged alphabetically, the rows and columns have no special meaning, I just chose two rows and three columns randomly. I could have as easily chosen one row with six columns, or three rows with two columns.
After we have made the table, perhaps we want to add a title to it. Our first attempt might look like this:
Some countries near Poland
That doesn't look very appealing. We'd like to put that title inside the top of the table, not sitting on it. We can add a row to the top of the table, with the Insert Row Up command. Click anywhere in the top row of the table, then select from the Table button on the editing bar and a pop-down menu appears. Choose the Insert Row Up command and your result should now look like this:
Some countries near Poland
We can now move our title into the table, but notice a problem here.
How do we get the title to display across the top of all three columns instead of sitting in just the first box?
Go to Lesson 2 to find out.
