Visitations of England

The heralds of England would visit all the armorial families in a county and report on the genealogy of that family, and to what arms the family were entitled. This sometimes meant that families which claimed arms, were denied the right to bear arms. Heralds were appointed by the ruler of England. Although these were done in the 16th and 17th century, they cover the genealogy of every important family in England at the time, and some of the genealogy extends back into the medieval period.

This appears to be an attempt at creating family trees based on the visitation, not a visitation itself.
I can't see from this, which visitation year it is supposed to reflect.
