1 Timothy Olyphant
Timothy David Olyphant was born 20 May 1968 in Honolulu, Hawaii, the son of Bevan Olyphant and his wife Katherine Gideon.  His Wikipedia biography (as of 28 Mar 2011) states, "At the age of two the family moved to Modesto, California."  This however seems to be an error,  Modesto is in Stanislaus County yet his older brother (born in 1966), and his younger brother (born in 1972), were both born in Alameda County, California.  So it must be that they lived somewhere like Oakland first.

They had moved by 1983 at least to that county, as that is where his parents were divorced in September that year.  Timothy graduated from Fred C Beyer High School in Modesto in 1986.  By 1989 he was living in Los Angeles, and at some point, probably later, he lived at 1116 W 30th St with his mother Katherine Olyphant. (U.S. Public Records Index V1) .

Wikipedia states that his "... notable roles in television drama series include Deadwood as Seth Bullock, Justified as Raylan Givens, and Damages as Wes Krulik. He has also starred in the films Scream 2, Gone in 60 Seconds, Dreamcatcher, Live Free or Die Hard, A Perfect Getaway, The Crazies and Hitman."

(Dreamcatcher was the 2003 film adaptation of Stephen King's book of the same name.) You can see a few pictures of him shirtless at this link.

2 Bevan Olyphant
John Vernon Bevan Olyphant was born 25 Apr 1941 in New York City, the son of John K Olyphant Jr and his wife Adele Sloane Hammond. Age 8 he is listed on a Ship's Passengers List coming with his family from Puerto Cortez to New York City, they had evidently been there for a vacation.  He is quite likely that one at Hatch Prep who is mentioned several times in Newport, Rhode Island papers, as "Bevan Olyphant" playing in football, tennis and ice hockey events, for example one mention as "star goalie" and a few others as "most valuable player" among others.

Bevan obtained an athletic scholarship to the University of Arizona, where he played tennis.  While at college, he pledged Phi Gamma Delta.  He graduated from the University of Arizona in 1963 with a B.S. in Geological Engineering.  He married Katherine in 1964 at St Clement's Episocal Church in Berkeley, his parents arrived from Dongan Hills, Staten Island, for the wedding. Bevan and Katherine evidently went on their honeymoon to Hawaii but then returned to live in Tucson first.  They had ties to that city, as they both graduated from the University of Arizona.  Their eldest son Andrew however was born in 1966 in Alameda County, California, probably in Oakland where her parents lived.  Their next son Timothy was born in 1968 in Honolulu, and their final son Matthew was born in 1972 again back in Oakland.

Bevan is named "J V Bevan" in his father's 1973 obituary in the New York Times.  Bevan worked for Gallo Winery   for 17 years, retiring in 1990.  This would explain why the family moved to Stanislaus County as that is the county where Gallo is located.  Bevan and Katherine divorced in that county in 1983.  I find Katherine later in Los Angeles.

As "John Olyphant" he lived at 9207 Rodden Road in Oakdale, California (U.S. Public Records Index V2), which is reasonably close to Gallo.  Bevan then went to work on the families "Biscuit Mountain Ranch" near Tucson.  He married again to a woman named Sally, and they lived in Tucson, Arizona in 2006 when that year he was inducted in the Phi Gamma Delta Hall of Fame at the U of A.  He is also known as "J V Bevan Olyphant".

3 Katherine Gideon
Katherine Gideon

in 1964

Katherine Gideon, was born 8 Oct 1940, the daughter of David Bickford Gideon and his wife.  This birthdate is recorded when she as "Katherine Olyphant" and her son Timothy were living together at 1116 W 30th St in Los Angeles. (U.S. Public Records Index V1)  Apparently she later married a Mr Wright.

She attended the University of Arizona, where she pledged Kappa Alpha Theta.  This is probably where she met her future husband Bevan Olyphant.  She married John Vernon Bevan Olyphant in 1964 at St Clement's Episcopal Church in Berkeley, they evidently went on their honeymoon to Hawaii but then returned to live in Tucson first. Her sister Anne Bickford Gideon and brother David Hamilton Gideon are also mentioned.

They had ties to Tucson, as they both graduated from the University of Arizona.  Their eldest son Andrew however was born in 1966 in Alameda County, California, probably in Oakland where her parents lived.  Their next son Timothy was born in 1968 in Honolulu.  That same year, at her sister's wedding she is called "Mrs Bevan Olyphant of Honolulu".  Their final son Matthew was born in 1972 again back in Oakland. On the two sons birth entry in the California Birth Index, her maiden name is listed as Gideon.

The family moved to Stanislaus County, California where Bevan worked for Gallo Winery.  Katherine and Bevan divorced in that county in 1983.  Katherine and her son Timothy are later found living in Los Angeles.  Her son Matthew Olyphant was a founding member of the punk rock band Fetish.  Matthew is evidently that same one who is now this artist on Facebook, and has this website, where he states that he was born in Oakland.

Who's Who in Engineering 1922-1923
by John William Leonard
