Thomas de Audley
+
Eve de Clavering

He was born between 1296 and 1299. In CPR E1V3 p341 his marriage is granted so he was born by 23 Oct 1299, yet in CPR E2V1 p26 he is stated to have died while still a minor so he could not have been born before 7 Jul 1296His father, Nicholas de Audley died 28 Aug 1299 (citing "Nicholas de Aldithley", Genealogics which cites Burke's Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Peerage, Baronetage and Knightage, London).
+
Eva was born between 1296 and 1306, as the I.P.M. of her mother Hawise dated 19E3 states that Eve was her next of kin and that Eve was "forty years old at that time" (see CTeG in Primary documentation below)It's likely that the I.P.M. actually states something like "forty years and more" but the cited work only states it as "forty years old".

He was the eldest surviving son and heir of Nicholas de Audley (or Aldithelegh), tenant in chief to Edward I, King of England.  Therefore, when Nicholas died while Thomas, was still a minor, Thomas person and marriage came to the hand of Edward.  On 23 Oct 1299, Edward granted the marriage to Hugh le Despencer "to the use of his daughter".  That grant states that Hugh and Nicholas had been negotiating for just such a marriage before Nicholas died.
+
Eve married firstly to Thomas de Audley who had died by 22 May 1308 when her marriage was granted as "Eva, late the wife of Thomas de Aldithlegh, tenant in chief" to Thomas de Ufford (CPR E2V1p72).

Whether Thomas was married, has conflicting accounts in CPRWhile it states that Thomas died a minor and unmarried (E2V1p26), it also later brings forth Eva as "late the wife of Thomas de Aldithelegh, tenant in chief" (E2V1p72).
+
Eve married secondly to Thomas de Ufford, who on 22 May 1308 was granted her marriage "...or of any fine incurred by her by marrying without license" indicating they had already married by that dateOn 9 Mar 1309, the Close Rolls have a memoradum concerning her dower, calling her "Thomas de Ufford and his wife Eve".

Unless there were two different persons living named Thomas de Aldithelegh, a possibility Rosie Bevan rejects, then it must be that CPR is in error on Thomas dying unmarried.
+
In 1319, her dower, one-third of the Manor of Cold Norton was leased by James Audley to Peter Giffard.  James had acquired it by gift of Eve.

Thirdly, Eve married and had a long relationship with Sir James de Audley by whom she had five children in the time period from 1314 to 1330. Her eldest son from this union, James de Audley was holding Eastington in 1357 and 1368, he died, unmarried, in 1369 at Fontenay-le-Comte.

A marriage between the parties had been treated of, and was left unfinished by the death of the said Nicholas; and the king being favourably disposed to the wishes of the deceased and of the said Hugh, has made the above grant."

As "Eve de Audley", she presented in 1332 to Blythborough, Suffolk, an honor possibly inherited from her father John who had presented in 1310.

(Edward II acceeded on Jul 7, 1307.)
+
She married lastly Robert Benhale who survived her.  The Inquisition taken after her death states that her first husband had been "Thomas de Audeleghe" and that "...James Lord Audley was the heir of her first husband."

Eve died 20 Sep 1369 and is buried at Langley "with all of her four husbands" (CP 1:348 per John Huggins).

*On soc.genealogy.medieval here, Rosie Bevan states "The 1319 deed bears closer examination. While Mr Richardson has glossed over it, saying it is [an] indication that they had married by that time,  the evidence shows otherwise. There were actually two deeds - one dated 1 November 1319 and the other dated 11 November 1319. The one dated 1 November was a deed of James de Audley leasing the third part of the manor of Cold Norton, Eve's dower, to Peter de Giffard for an annual rent of £23 6s 8d.,

*With the kind help of Peter Stewart the above translates to, ...agreement between Sir James de Audley on one part and Sir Peter Giffard on the other part, notice that the said Sir James by this writing has granted the fee farm to the said Sir Peter of the third part of the manor of Cold Norton including all its appurtenances without withholding anything in the County of Stafford, which the said Sir James acquired by the gift of lady Eve Doufford for the term of life of the said lady Eve, to have and to hold, the third part of the manor aforesaid and its appurtenances to the aforesaid Sir Peter, his heirs and assigns, of the said Sir James for the term of the life of lady Eve.

*Here we see that James held the third part manor by the GIFT of lady Eve, not by right as her husband ...."

*The article in which the second charter is mentioned is by Josiah Wedgwood himself - Parentage of Sir James de Audley, K.G., in Coll. Hist. Staff. N.S. vol. IX, pp.246-268. This is a fairly detailed and competent study of Sir James de Audley and worth reading. The author included an illustration of the seal of Eve at the end of the article, and from the description in Hedley, it is exactly the same one as was used in 1334, with the arms of Ufford impaling Audley. They are of Audley of Heighley, those of her first husband, not Audley of Stratton.
